Best St Maarten Local Rums
May 19, 2020How to make a Bob Marley from Divi Little Bay Beach Resort
May 21, 2020With its 37sq miles of scenic coastline and numerous offshore cays and islands, St Maarten offers a seemingly endless number of beautiful beaches, and each distinctly unique.
Some of St Maarten’s beaches offer stretches of glistening white sand kissed by gleaming turquoise waters, others are offshore cays home to an array of beautiful birds and sea life. Many of the best beaches on St Maarten are party hangouts filled with locals, families enjoying Watersport activities in St Martin, food vendors and Caribbean rhythms. Other beaches in St Maarten are utterly secluded sandy spots where the only thing you’ll hear is the quaint sounds of the Caribbean Sea and surrounding wildlife.
Green Cay
Green Cay is located a few hundred meters from the activity and bustle of Orient Bay. Caye Verte, is a tiny, secluded island which is perfect for a relaxing escape. Snorkeling lovers will enjoy this quaint little paradise and find particularly rich seabeds to the east of the islet.
Petite Cayes
Petites Cayes can be reached via a 30-minute walk, that can either start at the Anse Marcel Marina (a more difficult path near the new Secrets St. Martin Resort & Spa) or via a trek along the coast starting at French Cul de Sac. The hike is worth it to get to this unspoiled, almost deserted beach which is perfect for nature lovers and surfers.
Little Beach/ Petit Plage
Little Beach is located right opposite Creole Rock and forms the northern end of the Grand Case Bay at the Grand Case Beach Club Resort. This pristine and untouched beach is perfect for a relaxing time under sea grape trees or for a leisurely swim in calm blue waters.
David’s Hole/ Devil’s Hole
David’s Hole, aka Devil’s Hole was formed by the collapse of large sea cave chamber thousands of years old. David’s Hole, located on the French side of the island is accessible by a small dirt road to the right of Baie Rouge. Not necessarily a beach, but definitely a natural wonder and world class geological site, an arch links the rock to the sea. The area is perfect for scuba diving in St Maarten.
Plum Bay
Plum Bay or Baie aux Prunes beach is secluded and not so frequent a destination for tourists. Golden sands and clear turquoise water are enhanced by the peace and quiet that this beach offers. The calmer seas around this wild beach are the perfect locations for snorkeling and sometimes for surfing. There are no amenities here, unless you count the enchanting view of Saba. Plum Bay vacation rentals are some of the finest examples on luxury St Martin accommodations!
A fan of or not, Plum Bay is also the home of Donald Trump’s Chateau des Palmiers St Martin villa (pictured above).
Cupecoy Beach
A the very tip of where Dutch Sint Maarten meets French St. Martin lies secluded Cupecoy Beach. Right across the street from the Blue Mall, this beach is often overlooked by beachgoers because there isn’t an easy route to the water – but that’s what makes the view special. Weathered rock that turns pinkish/tan in sunset, rolling waves that are higher than what can be found on Orient Beach, and a tranquil nature that is unsurpassed anywhere else on the island – that’s what awaits you at Cupecoy.
Check out these luxurious Cupecoy villa rentals if you’re looking for a nearby place to stay.
Lover’s Beach
The beach owes its name to a local wit who noted that it was barely big enough to accommodate more than one couple at a time. To reach this small stretch of sand on the north-eastern edge of the island, you have to follow a trail and amble down a steep incline, but the secluded ambience is a mood enhancer.
