The Sunwing Travel Group purchased the former Sonesta Great Bay Beach Resort property in Philipsburg following the devastating hurricanes that struck the island in 2017. The property has since been demolished.
While Sunwing has yet to make any official announcement, it’s been rumored that the group will build a 450-room luxury Planet Hollywood Beach Resort & Casino in St Maarten. Such a move would make sense – Sunwing Travel Group & Planet Hollywood recently signed a deal to “dramatically increase” the footprint of the iconic lifestyle brand Planet Hollywood’s hotel operations. Elsewhere in the Caribbean, the group is set to open properties in Costa Rica this Fall and in Cancun in Spring of 2019.
Planet Hollywood has lead the position of authority on entertainment and pop culture for more than 25 years, delivering unique and memorable experiences for all of its guests.
In addition to the 450 rooms, the new property is rumored to host 5 restaurants (including a burger joint from famous TV personality Guy Fieri), a world class 20,000 square foot casino, spa and much more.
With the Maho Group announcing the reopening of its Sonesta St Maarten Resorts, we are all waiting in anticipation of Sunwing’s official announcement outlining its plans for the former Sonesta Great Bay property.
